Accessibility Statement
Bluebell Haven Care is committed to making its website, information and online enquiry routes accessible to as many people as possible, including people with disabilities and different communication needs.
OUR ACCESSIBILITY COMMITMENT
Making our website and information easier to use
Bluebell Haven Care wants as many people as possible to be able to use this website, understand our information and complete our online enquiry forms.
We are working towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2, Level AA, as our technical accessibility target. Accessibility is an ongoing process, and we will continue to identify and remove barriers as the website develops.
We also aim to make reasonable communication adjustments for disabled people and others who experience barriers when accessing our information, enquiry routes, recruitment processes or services.
How we aim to make the website easier to use
-
Keyboard navigation
We aim for visitors to be able to move through navigation, links, buttons and online forms using a keyboard rather than relying only on a mouse or touchscreen.
-
Zoom and text resizing
We aim for text and important page content to remain readable when visitors enlarge the page or use browser zoom.
-
Screen-reader support
We use headings, form labels, descriptive links and image descriptions to help people using screen readers understand and navigate the website.
-
Clear content
We aim to use clear headings, straightforward language and consistent page structures so that information is easier to find and understand.
-
Accessible online forms
Our forms include visible labels, required-field indicators, error messages, submission acknowledgements and guidance where hCaptcha may appear.
-
Mobile and responsive layouts
The website is designed to adapt to desktop, tablet and mobile screens without requiring visitors to use one particular device.
Accessibility measures currently included
-
Consistent navigation and headings
Pages use a consistent header, footer and content structure, with descriptive headings to help visitors understand where they are and what each section covers.
-
Alternative text for images
Meaningful website images are given concise descriptions that explain their purpose or content for visitors who cannot see them.
-
Clearly labelled forms
Our custom enquiry forms use visible labels, required-field indicators, guidance notes, privacy acknowledgements and confirmation messages after successful submission.
-
Controlled colour system
Bluebell Haven Care uses a restrained brand palette with dark text on light backgrounds and clear button treatments to support readability and visual consistency.
HONEST ABOUT WHAT WE ARE IMPROVING
Known accessibility limitations
Has the website received a full independent accessibility audit?
Not yet. Bluebell Haven Care has not completed a full independent assessment against every WCAG 2.2 Level AA success criterion.
We are carrying out staged reviews and practical checks as the website is completed. Until a documented assessment has been completed, we do not claim that the website fully conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
Long online forms
Some Home Support, staffing, Personal Assistant and careers forms contain several fields and may require substantial scrolling, particularly on smaller screens.
If completing a form is difficult, contact Bluebell Haven Care and ask for help or an alternative way to provide the initial information.
hCaptcha and security challenges
Shopify may use hCaptcha on contact forms to reduce spam. Most visitors will not receive an interactive challenge, but some may be asked to complete a hand icon, checkbox or other security task.
If hCaptcha prevents you from completing a form, email Bluebell Haven Care and explain which form you were trying to use.
Third-party platforms and external websites
Some features are provided by Shopify or other third parties. Links may also take you to external websites such as NHS, GOV.UK or West Sussex County Council.
Bluebell Haven Care cannot control the accessibility of external websites, but please tell us if an external link prevents you from obtaining important information.
Images and content still being reviewed
We are continuing to review image descriptions, heading order, link wording, button labels and page content across the website.
Please contact us if an image, link, heading or page structure is unclear when using assistive technology.
Documents published in the future
If we publish a document that is not accessible to you, ask us for the information in another reasonable format.
We will discuss the format that would help and provide an alternative where this is reasonable and practicable.
Different browsers and assistive technologies
The website may behave differently depending on the browser, operating system, device and assistive technology being used.
When reporting a problem, it is helpful to tell us what device, browser or assistive technology you were using, although you are not required to provide technical details you do not know.
ACCESSIBLE INFORMATION AND SUPPORT
Need help using the website or completing a form?
Contact Bluebell Haven Care if you need help finding information, choosing the correct enquiry route or completing one of our online forms.
You may also request information in another reasonable format. Depending on what is needed, this may include a plain-text email, larger print, a more accessible electronic document or additional help understanding the information.
Tell us what would make the information easier for you to access. You do not need to provide detailed medical information when requesting an accessibility adjustment, and we will not charge you for a reasonable adjustment.
Tell us about an accessibility barrier
-
Where did the problem happen?
Tell us the page, form, link or section where you experienced difficulty. Include the page address where you can.
-
What were you trying to do?
Briefly explain the task, the barrier you experienced and whether any error message or unexpected behaviour appeared.
-
What would help?
Tell us about an alternative format, communication adjustment or change that may help you access the information or complete the task.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Accessibility standard, testing and review
What accessibility standard are we using?
Bluebell Haven Care is working towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2, Level AA.
WCAG explains how to make websites and other digital content more perceivable, operable, understandable and robust for people with a wide range of disabilities.
What is the current compliance status?
The website is currently being reviewed against WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
Because a full documented assessment has not yet been completed, Bluebell Haven Care does not currently make a formal claim of full WCAG conformance.
How is the website built?
The website is built on Shopify using the Craft theme, Shopify page sections and custom Liquid forms.
Accessibility depends on the theme, the content entered by Bluebell Haven Care, custom code, third-party components, browser support and the assistive technology being used.
How will accessibility be assessed?
Our accessibility reviews will include keyboard-only navigation, browser zoom, mobile layouts, heading structure, colour contrast, image descriptions, form labels, error messages, button behaviour and selected screen-reader checks.
Automated tools may support this work, but they will not be treated as a substitute for manual testing and user feedback.
